This whole confidence thing is new and strange, but I like it a lot.
This week I had two interviews at Stone Creek Coffee, got hired there, quit Target (...finally), had the confidence to jam with someone spontaneously (it was kick-ass, too), and got offered a gig informally teaching guitar to someone's 13 year-old-going-on-30 daughter. In my spare time I wrote a few songs complete with lyrics and vocal melodies, something I normally struggle with.
Oh, and I'm finally in therapy; I must say that my only regret is not starting sooner. Like, say 5 years ago? Maybe 20... There's no point in "shoulda, woulda, coulda" thinking, but I'm realizing how badly I neglect myself sometimes.
Stood down a two hour kick of intense, cramping nausea like a champ last night. (maybe I'm getting my period.) It's interesting how discomfort can induce an almost shamanic focus in the willing heart. The things in the resulting journal entry have a clarity and insight that I haven't enjoyed for a long time, bordering on psychic power. The colour of psychic power is green, by the way. Not red or black (anymore). Whatev.
When you're tempted to balance the everlasting souls of scarecrows on that blade edged with righteousness on one side and hatred on the other, (that cankered and blackened self-defense) honey- put the sword down. There's no one to fight here but straw men.
Devious Comments
Can't wait to read your lyrics. Hey that reminds me... i kind of put my foot in my mouth about not liking music with lyrics. This is A: not true and B: not possible for me to listen to music thusly. (not sure if that is prepositional phrase or neat grammar but...anyhoo) Yeah, thing about lyrics in songs is, they are the secondary response for me and I never listen to them unless I read the liner notes while listening. I find it impossible to decipher lyrics sometimes; what with meanings and syllables and all that. Lyrics are so important though and I regret indicating that I don't like lyrics and singing. I do! I just have to dig what the singer is putting out there.
Take for instance Nickelback. okay, yeah the music is stinking yellow diarrhea, and formulaic, but ALSO have you heard those 'tards new tune?!
It's somethin' bout a chick looking cuter with something in her mouth. Well, I wasn't born yesterday. Why sing about that? It's like they are trying to prove they are heterosexual. It is very 6th grade.
There are bands out there I like however, and could do without their lyrical stylings. Take ACDC. Music is ripping, but Bon Scott's voice is weird. Thing is, I am so used to it though-dunnae matter. Same with Geddy Lee. Wow, what a weird voice. I really think I might have run out of steam on this note. anyway, there are alway instances where voice and music and the lyrics and chords work together in a mature brillance. And it is pretty narrow-minded of me to deny any bands right to be the individuals they are. I guess If I don't like chocolate ice cream don't eat it. Or if I don't like judge judy, I can change the channel.
anyway, can't wait to get together again. See you soon I hope.
